distinguished estate and boutique hotel seeks an experienced, detail-oriented General Manager to oversee all aspects of the property’s operations and guest experience.

This role is suited to a seasoned hospitality professional who can effortlessly balance gracious hosting and refined guest service with the operational, financial, and leadership responsibilities of managing a historic estate of scale and significance.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead a small but high performing team by example—hands-on, empathetic, and purpose-driven—while fostering a culture of teamwork and synergy between all departments with excellence always at the forefront. A deep understanding of fine culinary arts and wine, along with strong collaborations with local partners, will be essential to creating exceptional experiences.

The General Manager will take an active role in marketing and booking the estate primarily to international for high-net-worth (UHNW) guests and corporate clients, with defined goals for revenue generation and brand alignment. The successful candidate will deliver a bespoke, proactive, and seamless hospitality experience, ensuring every guest interaction reflects the property’s values and aesthetic.

Fluency in English and Italian is required; proficiency in an additional European language would be advantageous. Familiarity with Italian culture and lifestyle is a distinct advantage, as is prior experience serving a discerning international clientele. A love of the outdoors will also be preferred as the property is not located in a city.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Full oversight of the estate, gardens, and all ancillary buildings.
  • Manage and maintain the estate exceeding owner, director, and guest expectations, ensuring excellence in service, comfort, safety, and discretion.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training to maintain international standards of accommodation and service.
  • Supervise renovation and improvement projects, liaising with architects, designers, contractors, and vendors, maintaining transparent reporting.
  • Maintain the property’s collection of fine art, furniture, and antiques.
  • Manage operational and reservations calendars, staff scheduling, and guest activities and menus.
  • Conduct pre- and post-visit guest outreach to nurture relationships and encourage repeat business.
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies and a sales pipeline to meet annual revenue and occupancy goals.
  • Liaise regularly with the Leadership Team on financials, payroll, HR, IT, legal, security, and construction.
  • Plan and execute concierge services and special events, including formal dining, floral design, and entertainment.
  • Oversee housekeeping, laundry, service, sommelier, and culinary teams, ensuring peak performance and consistency.
  • Ensure the property’s readiness, maintenance, and security; foster strong relationships with vendors, contractors, neighbouring estates, and the local community.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing luxury private estates or five-star boutique hotels.
  • Proven leadership in staff management across all hospitality departments.
  • Experience managing vendors, budgets, and project quotes.
  • Strong operational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Hands-on and collaborative management style with a commitment to perfection and no task too small.
  • Familiarity with smart home systems, fire and security infrastructure.
  • Absolute discretion and confidentiality are essential.
  • Flexible schedule, including availability for weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
  • Creative, engaging, and adaptive personality with emotional intelligence to read and respond to varied guest needs.
  • Valid driver’s license and police record.
